Mitsukoshi Department Store is one of the oldest and grandest department store in Tokyo. The store at Ginza is a branch of the flagship store located at Nihombashi (note, not Nihonbashi). Mitsukoshi was founded by the Mitsui family as a kimono store back in 1673. Over the course of retail history, it has chalked up several firsts, including the first store to deal only in cash sales, in 1683, the first to display goods on shelves rather than having a salesperson bring it to the customer, and was the first to employ female attendants.

Mitsukoshi Department Store at Ginza was opened in 1930. is located right on the 4-chome crossing, face-to-face with Wako Department Store on the other side of the road.
